Lead Electrical Engineer – Offshore Wind Industry
Are you ready to take the lead in shaping the electrical systems of some of the world's most advanced offshore wind vessels?
Cadeler is a global partner in the offshore wind industry, specialising in wind farm construction and maintenance. Our industry is more relevant than ever and plays a critical role in the energy transition, with a strong long-term outlook. As our industry continues to develop, so do we!
We are now looking for an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team and take technical ownership of electrical, control, automation and Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems across our vessel fleet. We are also open to considering Senior Electrical Engineers with the right technical background and experience who are ready to take on greater responsibility.
What will you do?
In this role, you will provide technical leadership across newbuilding projects, vessel upgrades and engineering optimisations. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, you will drive technical solutions and contribute to the continuous development of our fleet.
Your key responsibilities will include:
· Lead and support electrical engineering scopes for newbuildings, vessel upgrades, modifications and optimisation projects, from initial studies and technical specifications through to implementation.
· Provide technical expertise within electrical, control, automation and Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems, including their interfaces, optimisation and development across our fleet.
· Evaluate technical proposals, participate in equipment selection and negotiations with shipyards and suppliers, and ensure solutions meet technical, commercial and operational requirements.
· Drive improvements in vessel performance, energy efficiency and sustainable operations, while ensuring compliance with classification requirements, statutory regulations and company procedures.
· Support project teams, Vessel Management and Sales with technical expertise, troubleshooting and engineering solutions.
· Participate in project meetings, follow up on fabrication sites and onboard vessels, and contribute to R&D initiatives and technological developments.
· Maintain technical documentation and promote knowledge sharing and alignment across departments.
To succeed in this role
You are an experienced electrical engineer with a strong background in the marine, offshore or offshore wind industry. You combine solid technical expertise with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset, and you enjoy taking ownership of complex engineering scopes while collaborating with stakeholders across the organisation.
You pay attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture and are comfortable balancing technical requirements with commercial considerations.
We imagine that you have:
· A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience, with at least 7 years of relevant experience within the marine, offshore or offshore wind industry. Experience as an Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) would be considered an advantage.
· Strong knowledge of Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems, particularly their electrical, control and automation interfaces.
· In-depth experience with HV/DC distribution grids, frequency drives, automation and onboard energy storage systems.
· Familiarity with FMEA, classification requirements, statutory regulations and relevant industry standards.
· Experience leading engineering projects, managing technical scopes and working with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a strong sense of ownership and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
We are open to considering both Lead and Senior Electrical Engineers, depending on experience and technical expertise.
